About Us
Midwest Carpet Center Inc.
The roots of Midwest Carpet Center Inc. started back in 1924, with Robbins & Sons Floor Sanding Company. Based out of Kansas City, Frank Robbins, Sr. formed the company, which mainly laid, sanded and refinished hardwood floors. Eventually, all 7 of his sons became involved in the business. In 1955, Ralph Robbins and his wife Ruth Robbins started Midwest Floor Service in Kansas City. Seeing growth in the Leavenworth county area and wanting a more rural atmosphere for their kids to grow up in, Ralph and Ruth moved the business to Tonganoxie, KS in 1961. With the change in demand for floor covering, Midwest Floor Service became Midwest Carpet in 1967. With the change in name, came a change in floor covering products carried by Midwest Carpet such as carpet, tile, vinyl and hardwood. In 1984, Ralph and Ruth turned the business over to their youngest son Phillip Robbins and his wife Marilyn. To this day, the business remains family owned and operated.
